MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS
Does TRI discriminate?
No. Membership is open to all eligible persons without
discrimination toward race, color, religious affiliation,
sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, physical
disability or medical condition, national or ethnic origin
or citizenship.
What types of membership are there and how much are they?
There is only one class of membership in TRI. The standard
membership fee is $20 for a single membership or $ 30 for a
couple. Click Here for more member info.
We're not married, are we a couple?
Yes, whether you're living together or not. However, your
benefits and member communications only go to one address,
so unless we're told otherwise, this is the first name on
the application.
There's no 'Family' Membership?
Families are welcome, but there's no single membership fee
covering the whole household and TRI's low membership fees
are structured for singles or couples. Besides, your kids
and grandkids 15 and under are usually free and welcome at
TRI events.
What about business memberships?
Business people may join TRI as persons or may want to check
out the TRI-STAR
( Supporting Trikes And Riders ) program which includes
memberships.
What are the Founder's and Organizer's Groups then? Aren't
these classes of membership?
These are standard memberships with special recognition as a
result of an additional first-time help above the membership
fee. This 'kick start' is appreciated with reserved member
numbers, patches and recognition.
Since non-owners can't be volunteer group leaders; isn't
that a 'class' of membership?
No, ownership of a trike is a qualifier for a leadership
position because we feel that a leader should fully
experience and understand triking. However, when TRI needs
special talents and skills outside of a riding group,
exceptions are possible.
Can
a non-owner be involved as a staff person?
Yes, and the help is important and greatly appreciated.
Are
there any other membership fees or dues?
No, there is only one membership fee and that entitles the
member to participate with any TriGroup.
What do I get for my membership?
The member benefits are listed
here.
TRI will continue to pursue added benefits and upgrades to
existing benefits.
What is the 'annual' term of my membership?
Your annual membership period begins when your fee is
received. That will be your anniversary date.
Who
do I contact about my membership application and records?
TRI Business Group
Membership Services.
COLORS AND TRADEMARK QUESTIONS
What is
the difference between Colors and Trademarks?
'Colors' is a term used in the motorcycling and triking
world to refer to the organization's trademarks and symbols.
TRI's symbols are protected by Trademark Law.
Am
I required to wear TRI colors?
No, but we hope you do so with pride. Each group within TRI
is free to choose the type and color of apparel they would
like to use with the logo. If you choose to wear the colors,
here is a guide to suggested usage.
Can
a member of TRI display the colors anyway they like?
Not if the planned display disrespects the members of TRI.
If there is any question regarding your planned usage,
contact your next available leadership position for
approval. As trademarks, we have every right to protect the
usage.
Can
a member put the colors on different items?
Providing any questionable usage has been properly settled,
a member of TRI may display the symbols of TRI on all items
of personal use.
How
can a group use the colors?
A group in TRI may use the symbols on its publications,
signs, banners and group flags and personal colors intended
solely for use within the group. The items must also be
offered to the group members at cost.
What if I, or my group wants to sell trademarked products at
a profit?
A license is required. All inquiries should be directed to
the Business Group.
ORGANIZATIONAL QUESTIONS
What are the mission, purpose and goals of TRI?
You can check that out
here.
What about 'Attitude'?
TRI doesn't do 'attitude' and are proud to defy the
public's stereotyped thinking towards 'bikers and trikers'.
Our approach is through courteous intereaction with the
general public, within the motorcycling community and
definitely with each other. We're here to enjoy our
fellowship and trust the AMA, our motorcycle rights group,
to be our watchdog.
Where can I learn more about operating my trike safely?
The TRI Training Group is dedicated to this purpose. TRI
realizes that trikes are different from motorcycles and has
developed classes and courses just for trikers.
What about my freedom to choose about helmets and other
stuff?
We are not the 'safety police' and we respect your personal
freedom of choice. You will not be barred from any
activities and your choice shouldn't be debated.
What is TRI's Motto?
Adventure, Fellowship and Knowledge.
I
belong to a group with a trike special interest group,
what's the difference?
The Special Interest Group serves a brand-specific and
mostly a particular type of trike. TRI is a complete
organization focused entirely on the world of triking with
all brands and types included.
What does TRI call a trike?
A qualifying Trike is a three wheeled, street legal vehicle
that has either the rear two wheels or the front two wheels
permanantly altered
Doesn't TRI recognize sidecars or 'added wheels' kits?
For the sake of TRI's mission, purpose, goals and training
we can only recognize the vehicles defined in the previous
question.
.
TRI
is AMA Chartered, does that mean that TRI membership equals
AMA membership?
Sorry, no. The AMA charter is about recognition of TRI as an
organization and an opportunity for we trikers to enlist the
aid of the most powerful legislative rights groups in the
country. We do encourage your personal AMA membership.
How
is TRI organized?
TRI is organized into 'groups', beginning with the local
TriGroup which is comparable to a chapter in other
organizations. Next is a Group I that serves the TriGroups
within a defined geographic area such as a state or
province. A Group II serves the Group Is within a larger
defined geographic area such as a region or territory.
These
groups are served by the TRIOperations Group headed by the
Executive Director. Tri Training, Leadership appointments,
organization wide programs and the chain of communication
are coordinated by TRIOps. A Director heads each major
service task.
Finally, there is the TRI Business Group, which centralizes
and manages the nuts and bolts of office operations
including maintenance of your membership and benefits.
What's the difference between the TRI 'Organization' and a
"club"?
To start, let's make it clear we are not against clubs which
work great for lots of folks….it's just that in our
experience it's been proven that a 'non-club' system works
better for us.
TRI is
a social organization with professional management and
knowledgeable volunteer leadership who deal with the details
so the membership can enjoy the Adventure, Fun and Knowledge
without stressing over debates, voting, legal protections,
status and etc. Our leadership and business groups cover
your back so you can have confidence that TRI will live up
to your expectations.
How
are we heard if we can't vote?
The military has a saying, "it's a dumb Lieutenant who
doesn't listen to his Sergeants". TRI, which is in the
'business' of serving your expectations, knows where your
ultimate vote is. So communication is most important and
conversations, suggestions and consensus are effective.
When
social groups get 'political' three things can occur: 1)
Everyone is so much in agreement that a formal vote is a
waste of time. 2) When a very few disagree, the group takes
sides and damages their fellowship over things they could
just as easily talk through and 3) A minority can insist on
parliamentary procedures that can hobble a group into
inactivity.
TRI
is a non-political and non-religious group?
TRI's common ground is the love of triking and fellowship
derived from that. Our gatherings and activities should be a
fun and pleasant experience for everyone. Political and
religious beliefs are very personal and sometimes strongly
held. Because of this, debating either issue is guaranteed
to divide and disrupt a mixed social group and we would
rather stick to what we agree on, which is our love of
triking.
What about alcohol and drugs?
TRI's meetings and riding activities are alcohol free.
We're not a bunch of blue-nosed teetotalers, but it just
doesn't make any sense to put ourselves in harm's way and
make a mockery of our own safety programs. For those who
drink when not riding we appreciate responsible behavior. We
are zero tolerance on illegal drugs.
Why
doesn't TRI have 'Officers'?
We believe that using the 'officer' title for our leadership
is somewhat misleading. These important positions are about
service, communication and coordination much more than they
are about 'authority'. Leaders in Tri are in reality
officers of TRI; we just don't let them get a big head about
it :>).
Where does the leadership come from?
TRI leadership comes from within the group. Preferably, a
person voluntarily requests consideration for appointment.
Sometimes the group suggests someone.
Who
do I contact for questions and information about TRI
Leadership?
That would be the TRIOperations Group,
Director of Group Operations.
How
can I form a TriGroup?
Congratulations for asking this question! It means that your
proposed TriGroup has a leader-designate who is YOU? You
will need 9 more members. The Director of Group Operations
will walk you through the details.
Can
I combine a TriGroup with my existing chapter or club group?
No. A TriGroup serves TRI members and triking only. There
are also legal issues and benefits that require being
exclusively chartered with Trike Riders International.
